Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

HAND MADE

Hand Made?  Heart Made?..the same thing, I think.

My hands are tools I use in daily life.
Bearing scars of wounds that occur
As I do the things I love.
Not beautiful or elegant in the classic sense,
But graciously expressing my heart's content.

I have this piece of art that speaks to my heart.

Created by the hands and heart of the artist, Erin Boniferro.

For me this piece speaks of strength and vulnerability,

courage and tenderness,

brutality and delicacy...

all the wonderful contrasts that go to make up a human being.

Here you can see the gold thread that forms the outline of the lion's head,

and here the delicate pink silk ribbon tied into its mane.

This piece of art brings me unending joy.

Erin presently runs her own shop-front art centre in Vancouver.
She teaches classes and sells art supplies and books.

She created this centre by hand from her heart too...(with lots of help from other hands).

Here's a video from her blog.
If you live in Vancouver, or happen to visit, stop by.

She's a lovely woman, my eldest daughter's best friend growing up.
She also happens to be my best friend's daughter.

  1. I LOVE to watch kids paint and crayon. Unlke adults, they just go for it and get so involved in the process. you can see it in their faces.

What a nice double connection you have with this woman and her mother. If we go to Vancouver in the Spring I will look her shop up.

  2. Oh, I want to come and live in Vancouver now! I loved this clip and you are so right about the painting Jacqueline. I love art for how it makes you feel.
Once that clicked with me I never looked back. Collage has to be one of the best creative experiences ever. It is liberating and I wish I did more of it. While living in Australia I worked out of a studio with an Art teacher. I learned so much from her and loved creating my own work. I stopped when we left in 2005. I miss it...your post has inspired me. Thank you :)

  3. Jacqueline, I can see why it is your favorite piece of art, so creative and expressive and beautiful. Also with the added meaning that it was created by someone you know and love.

The video was so great and what a fun place that must be for the children. Their imaginations know no boundaries there and they are allowed to create wherever and whatever they want. I imagine her art shop is a very popular place for the children of Vancouver and their parents. And children at heart. Ann

  5. This is so original. And to have the friendship go with it makes it even more better.
Always good to hear of relationships and interactions that is so long lasting, seeing most things are changed and ex-changed so easily.
