Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

the night after!

What fun!
Kids Galore!
Costumes!
Sweets!

This is has been the first Halloween night that I can remember
that was filled with so much fun.
I actually ran out of sweets to hand out.
But no worries, my two wonderful grandsons came to the rescue,
and were happy to dip into their
own goodie bags to share when the knocks came at the front door.

The rain held off until it was sure every last little tiger, princess fairy,
batman, and vampire costumed pre-schooler was safely tucked in up bed.
So with the rain beating against the windows we settled in for the evening
and sat casually around the living room,
feasting on bowls of seafood chowder bake, and a casserole of
pasta from the oven, finished off with a delicious dessert of key lime pie
baked by my lovely daughter-in-law, Trisha.
We laughed about past Halloween parties, and the choices of costumes that
we all have dressed up in at some time in our lives.
(Remember J. - Salt and Pepper!)

Trisha shared the most precious story of a very young little guy
who came to her door dressed as Buzz Lightyear, from Toy Story.
He probably was barely three years old and stood their clutching his
dad's hand, not really sure what to do.
He very shyly took a chocolate bar from the sweet bowl and turned to
walk away, his father stopped him realizing that he had
not said thank you for the chocolate, and said
"What do you say"

He looked up at him with puzzled eyes, looked at Trish, looked at the
chocolate bar and said nothing.
His father said again,
"What do you say?"

The sweet little guy then lifted his left arm up to the sky,
and in his quietest of quietest voice, looked at his Dad
and still with a puzzled look on his face...
whispered

"...to infinity and beyond?"

  1. I LOVE that story! Yes...to infinity and beyond!

Glad you had fun V...Rudy and I hid out at the pub, which was full of silly big kids in costumes. (There aren't any little kids in our part of town, so we really weren't hiding out).
I remember salt & pepper very well!

Is it me, or was this Halloween just plain nice?

  2. Hahahah!! So cute!! "To infinity and beyond" must be Buzz Lightyear code for "Thanks" :-)

There aren't a lot of young kids in our neighbourhood, but we get a few more each year. So funny - one little girl said she likes our front door colour :-)

  3. That's such a lovely story, and how magnificently if inadvertently he rose to the occasion. Sure beats thank you.
