Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

Life...

Lots of home-y stuff going on at the moment...planting...paint-touch-ups...weekend house guests...a little golf.  All good stuff.

Eldest daughter is coming down next weekend, time to catch up with her and all the exciting things going on in her life.

Trying desperately to work out a trip to Miami to see my younger daughter and son-in-law, and catch up on their life-changing opportunities too.

Summer always seems to bring a sense of hurry with it.  Don't understand where the saying "lazy days of summer" comes from.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is in full swing with this year being the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812.  Costumed characters roaming the streets, pointing out all the important historical sights.
A huge party is planned for Canada Day - July 1.  Tragically Hip will be playing on the Common.  We are expecting 20,000 attendees.  That might just be a day to stay home.

Major-General Isaac Brock commanded British forces in the War of 1812.

The weather now is glorious.  Sunny, warm...with just an edge of a cool breeze in the air.  If it stayed this way all summer, I would be thrilled.  But it won't.  The sultry, humid heat of July and August will come soon, and we will all migrate to our air-conditioned sanctuaries while the dog-days of summer roll on.

A couple of doctors' appointment scheduled soon, but serious treatment won't begin until August/September.  Hardly seems real right now.  We are happy to stay in this little dreamworld, if only for a while.

  5. I've been absent from blogdom for a bit and it seems I missed something. I'll read through some older posts and see if I can catch up.

I hope you have a lovely time with your kids and I'll say a prayer for you...just to be safe. ;-)

  6. Well, CRAP!

Having been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, last summer, I have somewhat of an idea of how you're feeling. Of course, everybody is different as is every illness and treatment. I'm glad that you have a loving husband there to support you. Let your girls in too ~ mine were absolutely life-savers as I went through my treatment.

Suck all the joy out of this summer that you can and build up your body for a good fight! Cancer treatments have come so far. As you know, it is no longer a death sentence. (although, I must admit, the initial diagnosis sure threw me for a loop!)

Take care, my Friend and keep on appreciating the Beauty in the Ordinary! As will I.

  7. Yes, you are right, summer offers little time to be lazy. We try to pack so much into a few months and everything seems to go by so quickly. However, find that time for yourself and your family and enjoy the simple things.

Being with daughters is always a great "pick me up".

  8. Sorry to hear you guys are facing some trouble. The good news is that it is treatable, I have 4 friends with husbands facing the same issues and all are in various stages of treatment and all doing quite well. The journey may be a bit rough but you'll still see some beauty around each bend...

I have learned each day is truly a gift.
