Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

Two Down

Seven (weeks) to go...

My hero still stands tall, side effects of radiation minimal.

I've been to each of his treatment sessions this week; the technology blows me away.

They overlay the planning CT scan atop one taken each day so that he is in the exact same position +/- 1mm before they deliver the radiation.

45 minimal doses given every day except weekends over nine weeks so that the target cells are destroyed and have no time to recover, but good cells that are on the periphery of the treatment area, the collateral damage, do have time.

The staff at the hospital are professional, kind, interested, just amazing.

By contrast, FIL has been hospitalized this week in need of a pacemaker.
He's in another hospital on the outskirts of town...we went to visit last night.  What a nightmare of a place.

What I find most interesting is no matter how much we think we have everything under control, how incredibly wrong we are.

We have our schedule, a great flat near the hospital loaned to us by a good friend to stay in during the week; caring people to see and be with during this time...so we have all the bases covered - we should both be absolutely fine...

and yet we are fragile and exhausted and just desperately want to be home.

Funny old life isn't it?

  1. Hard times indeed. Somehow, I know you're both strong people, and you will pull through OK. The good times are ahead of you both, and you need to focus on that alone. My very best wishes, Cro.

  3. Keep moving and don't look for the end, but watch your feet. The end will be wonderful when it appears without your looking for it. Best wishes.

  4. J so glad your hub's treatment is going well - the time will soon pass and he'll be as good as new. We are going through a similar thing here - though they have delayed my O/H's radiotherapy treatment for a few weeks. They're trying a new drug out on him, which he seems to be coping with OK. It's brilliant what the doctors can do now. So sorry to hear about your F-i-L. Hope he's home soon. Keep strong.

  5. Hello Jacqueline
The treatments will become easier and more automatic and if he is not tired try and plan a special lunch each day at a different restaurant in a new area of the city.
One of my favourtie lunch restaurants is: Doria's on Yonge Street beside Rosedale subway station, both outdoor and indoor dining. They have incredible Italian pizzas, salads and panninis. A great block of shops closeby.
If you need more names of restaurants I shall gladly provide.

We are presently in Ireland. I will sadly not be able to meet Mise this year due to conflicting schedules.

    Prayers and good wishes

    Helen xx

    1. Our friend's flat, the one we are staying in, is right behind Rosedale subway Helen. This used to be our old stomping ground when we lived at Yonge and St.Clair, so we know it, and Doria well. Sad to see that Lakes has gone, but we are becoming locals at The Rebel House.
      Have fun in Ireland!

    1. FIL should be having pace-maker inserted as we speak SH...fingers crossed we will have him home by the weekend...which will be a good thing...I don't fancy his chances if they keep him in that awful hospital for an extended stay!

  7. I see the face of Asalan: protection, wisdom, peace from Divine Source. We all wish you well, and we all know that not everything always turns out the way we would wish. But All is Always in Divine Right Order. That energy can shelter us in a place of peace and well being when the body with its fragility moves through its phases.

I will say this affirmation for both of you daily. Say it, also, for each other.

I hold you, Jacqueline, in the Radiant Glory, the Infinite Spaciousness, Abundance and Love, and the Blissful Peace of Your Own Truth Self.

This is who you both really are. The body comes and goes. The Radiant Soul is forever and ever. Many blessings to you.

  11. Hi Jacqueline,

This sounds so awful and I can't imagine the reality of this. I've worked in the medical field for nearly 30 years and have seen a lot of cancer.. some with good outcomes.. some not.

Life is full of unexpected turns. Resilience is key.

You guys are in my prayers..

    1. Thanks Nella...we are one third of the way and he's doing okay. Doctors are marvelous. I know a lot of people knock National Health, but when you are really sick, the system works amazingly well. The team at Princess Margaret couldn't be better. We are still saying CURE, CURE, CURE!
      How's the reno going?
