Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

"Never Say Something Good...

...doesn't come out of something bad".

As I overheard that wise granny telling her grandson in our first hospital-merry-go-round-ride earlier this year...see here and here .

With all the time spent sitting around radiation treatment waiting rooms over the past few months,
this and hopefully a successfully-treated husband, is what I have to show for it.

My very own Hudson's Bay Blanket.

Made from a pattern on the The Purl Bee blog for a crib blanket.

I changed the dimensions and colours up a bit.

I love how it looks on my much-loved green leather chair.
A perfect blanket for hubby to cuddle up under and watch some TV.

Go to  The Purl Bee and check out their site.  They have some lovely ideas, patterns and tutorials.

  1. It's a beautiful knit blanket. As a Canadian the Hudson Bay Blankets are abundant here. I can't help but look at them and think cozy comfort.
Wishing your Husband cozy comfort rests snuggled under the blanket.

    1. Thanks Joanne - I did toy with giving it to my kids and then just couldn't part with it. I guess if they want one, they will ask me to make it for them! LOL!

  5. Hello dear Jacqueline, the Hudson Bay blanket has always been a favourite of mine, and it looks great with your green leather chair, funny my hubby has an identical one in red, with an ottoman! Yours looks cushy and gently worn just like his..our boys have their sense of place! Hope all is well, and I am sending you hugs and good wishes, N.xo

    1. We bought the chair when we were living in Atlanta,Georgia Nella in the mid-90s. It's travelled with us to Thailand, England and back to Canada. I remember the sales rep telling us when we bought it that it would outlive the pair of us...I'm beginning to believe him!

  6. I'm sure I've seen similar designs here in France. I wonder if that's where it originates?

    1. I'm told Cro, that the HBC blanket was traded by the Company in then British America now Canada, with the Native Americans for fur pelts. The point system in the design, consisting of the number of stripes, indicated the blanket's size and weight, so it didn't have to be opened up when trading took place. The blanket is iconic in Canada, as meaningful as the maple leaf.

  7. Hello Jacqueline

I just love your positive attitude and instead of spinning yarns in the hospital, you put your hands and mind to good use. The result is a garment of beauty.
I am sure your husband will treasure this shawl and know that every stitch was knitted with love and the odd tear.

Wishing you a week of joy
    Helen xx
