Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

FOOD

Lord, love-a-duck Raz
this was a tough one.

The photo-challenge this week is FOOD.

What a loaded topic that is!
Well, for me anyway.

Food is something I LOVE.
I love reading about it, shopping for it, touching it, smelling it, preparing it, cooking it...EATING it!
I enjoy nothing more in this world than people around the table.
Heck...I'll even pour myself the last glass of wine, light a candle, turn on the music and CLEAN UP!

Food is the language of my life.
It's how I express love, how I find pleasure...how I exist.

And yet...there is the dark side,
starvation, deprivation, corruption, anorexia, bulemia,
obesity, additives, preservatives, CAFO's, genetically modified food.
I'm overwhelmed by all of that!

So...defaulting to that safe place,
let me do what I do and give you my favourite sandwich recipe...

Two slices of fresh, home-made, toasted, multi-grain bread,
lightly...everso lightly spread with organic peanut butter...
Add two..okay maybe three,  slices of bacon from the all-gracious, wonderful, most generous pig....
as-many-slices-as-you-can-fit of a crisp, fresh-from-the-tree gala apple...
all topped with a fistful of alfalfa sprouts.

Delicious.  I'm happy.

  2. Terrific challenge, but you have made me hungry...AGAIN, and I've already had supper..grilled pesto chicken sausage with mashed potatoes and caramelized red onions ( I make mine with honey) SO THERE!

Are you hungry now? ; 0

  3. Your sandwich sounds sooooo good! What a combination, must give it a try! We eat sandwiches a lot for dinner, always with soup (as you've seen)...I'm already trying to figure out which one to serve with this special creation.

    Have a lovely weekend...

  4. Olive...It was only when I saw a photo of this sandwich that I decided it was worth trying and it's been a favourite of the family ever since. I have yet to meet someone who didn't like it.
Yes Suzan...you are making me hungry...again! Pesto chicken sausage...intriguing...
Jessica, let me know which soup you choose for this sandwich. The original recipe of the sandwich had three slices of bread (like a club), but we all found it too dense that way.

  5. beautifully written J.
This is why you are such a wonderful host, and why it's so comforting to be your guest.
I can vouch for the sandwich too...peanut butter and bacon...delish!!!

  6. Jacqueline, This is a new one to me too! Peanut butter is my absolute favorite thing so I may have to give this twist a whirl! I agree with your suspicion that you voiced in your comment on my blog. The BOGOs have to be a plot by the supermarkets. My theory is that they want us to buy things we normally would not, hence all that mayonnaise in my cupboard. Ann
