There are times when even I impress myself.
This morning, after a lazy start with coffee, newspapers
watching the snow fall outside,
I thought..."I'm tired of my own recipes...time for something new!"
So...google epicurious
and troll through the recipes.
I was seduced by the notion of
pork tenderloin, with shallots and winter pears in a pear nectar sauce.
Add to that baby spinach sauteed with jalapeno peppers
and oven-roasted mini potatoes and hey presto...
something different!
So, donning winter boots, beret and coat
with husband in tow to do the toting,
off we go...first to the wine store for a local cab sav and a
sauvingnon blanc.
And then to our local grocer/meat store for the pork, spinach, pears and pear nectar (please let them carry this!).
I have all of the other ingredients at home.
This is one of the easiest, prettiest, most enjoyable meals
I have prepared in a long time.
I fully intended taking photos of the completed meal,
but you know how it goes...the candles are lit,
the music is playing, the wine is poured...
time for a photo?...ah...no!
But do give it a try...it was wonderful!
As my mentor would say (God rest her beautiful soul):
I'm feeling starved just looking at that meal. (Makes dog food look pretty unappetizing.)
ReplyDeleteWhen Bear comes out of hibernation, I'll suggest this to him. He sometimes cooks "new things," meaning things he's ever tried before.
And thanks for sharing this.
P.S.: I love the picture of your beautiful dining room. So elegant; ideal for a Poodle.
Delicious J. What a great meal...wish I was there to enjoy it with you...sigh
ReplyDeleteYou always make food and cooking sound so wonderful.
Have to day I impressed myself tonight too...had the kids over, cooked butter chicken, served with basmati rice of course, and a baby arugula and watermelon salad. It was pretty delicious too.
Pretty savvy cooking, you have certainly inspired my meals for this week.

ReplyDeleteYummo does not sound classy enough to comment on such a gourmet repast but YUMMO anyway. :D

Suzan...Yummo is perfect!
Laura...sometimes we all need a kick in the cooking-pants!
It's so fun to be adventurous and try new recipes...there are so many out there, this one looks especially delicious...and obviously it was!
ReplyDeleteThere have been a few times when I thought "I should be taking a picture of this" as I am cooking or once the meal is completed, and of course it doesn't happen...having a personal photographer following us around in the kitchen is the answer I think...don't you agree?!
xo J~
If you find just the right personal photographer (especially one who does dishes) let me know Jessica!
ReplyDeleteAh Jacqueline, you are a woman after my own heart! I have the Epicurious App on my iphone..lots of great ideas. This one looks perfect and I especially like your choices in wine...would be two at the top of my list too!
ReplyDeleteYou can't have one without the other :)
