Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

Cell Phone Carriers!

Over the past two months, my cell phone carrier
has overcharged me by a total of $95.00.

I won't name which one it is, suffice to say their name begins with a B, ends in L and rhymes with hell.

And while they have been nothing but sweetness and charm when the mistakes were pointed out, doesn't it behoove them not to make these errors in the first place?

Each time the over-billed expense is reversed on MY NEXT BILL.  So they get to keep that money for a full 30 days.

Just imagine, being given those free dollars to use x millions of customers each month...quite an useful little tool, don't you think?

I can only imagine people who, unlike me (!), don't have the luxury of time to pour through their bill every month line by line.

Can you imagine the number of corporate account holders who never even see their monthly bill!

So...caveat emptor...settle yourself in somewhere comfortable and pretty and...

CHECK YOUR PHONE BILLS CAREFULLY!

  1. I though cell phone carriers were those little pouches in which one puts one's cell phone, to keep it from getting scratched to pieces. Besides, I thought cell phones were for those who had been in jail or prison — in which every cell had one of those phones.

As for big companies "borrowing" your cash for a month, how else do you think they make money?

Tis a world that gets curiouser and curiouser by turn, Jacqueline. Sigh!

P.S.: I've seen the brochure for this year's Shaw Festival. Interesting plays they are mounting this year. Nothing as good as Androchles and the Lion, but good enough.

  2. You stay in your lovely innocent world Rob-bear! It seems corporate deception is de rigeur these days - how I dislike that...sigh.
We've been a little busy just lately...haven't even looked at this year's lineup. Must get myself back into the groove!

  3. I (don't) like the way carriers advertise "$29.99/month" in big letters with a small almost invisible asterisk next to the price that takes you to the small print that says that this is the 'minimum' you'll pay each month and then load in all the 'extra charges'.

I want a 'telephone', not some gimmicky apps-bearing gadget like a Swiss Army Knife - all I want is to make and receive speech and text calls - nothing else! Try and by a phone that merely does that?

  4. Not sure if you have Blackberry in your part of the world JohnD (Research In Motion)...a (sadly struggling) Canadian company. Even though I love my MacBook, I really, really like my blackberry telephone. I have no desire to have an IPhone...like you, all I want the phone for is to send and receive calls, and text messages - a more reasonable way for me to stay in touch with both of my daughters and my son-in-law who live a long way away from me. Why on earth would I want to watch a TV show or athletic event on that teeny-tiny screen??
But then...I don't see the attraction in walking down the street drinking a coffee from a paper cup either...I'd rather make the time to sit down and drink it from a real cup. Dinosaurs, you and I!

  6. I was an office manager for a small company at my last job and one of the things I did was go over the telephone bill - all 500 plus pages. You would not believe the mistakes I found. On one occasion, I saw they were charging us for a phone we did not have? Over the years, I found thousands of dollars in overcharges that we were able to get back. I always wondered though what I did not catch and was erroneously charged.

  7. Now I know why I have a pay-as-you-go phone. Or at least I did have; Lady Magnon has changed the sim card, and taken it to Australia with her. Women eh!

    1. I'm not sure even PAYG keeps you safe...that just means they deduct the charges immediately - right or wrong! I'd still have a look at the bill to check things out.

  8. How rude!

Good for you for checking. I must admit, I'm one of those who wouldn't even notice ~ but can LEAST afford to pay the overcharge!
