Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

Out of the Mouths of Babes and Grannies...

Overheard in the hospital this week...

Grandson:  Jeez Granny...Diabetes? I'm only 30?  What the heck is this going to do to the rest of my life?

Granny:  Listen to me boy!..Never out of something bad didn't something good come!

I could have kissed her.

  1. Good thing is, I s'pose, that while we are seeing a lot more of late onset DM TypeI and DM TypeII is now so common in the (all ages) obese and the elderly that the medical fraternity and the government have now joined forces and are applying pressure to the fast food industry - a major source of fats and sugar - to start labelling the content of the foodstuff they are providing. Tom's corner Fish'n'Chip, Hamburger and Lolly joints will not be able to compete once the big providers decide that they will come on board and comply with compulsory labelling.

  2. It hasn't done me much good as yet; or bad either. Your blonde in black (3rd picture down) looks like my fiend Marianne. If it IS, she came to my recent birthday party!

    1. We are still in a holding pattern Molly...but thankfully pain-free. He will have surgery in 6 weeks to have his gallbladder removed. Then we will be home free!

    1. Thanks for the good wishes Jeanne...we have a delicate 6 weeks ahead of us, keeping the diet as low-fat as possible with the anti-spasmodic meds and pain killers on call if we need them. The trick is to not let the pain rack up too high that oral meds can deal with them. No way we want to end up back in Emergency again.

  6. Being a surgery nurse I can tell you that gallbladder surgery is now a pretty easy recovery now that it's done mainly laparoscopically. Hopefully your hubby will do well until then and it will be over with! As for the comments from granny to "kid"...good for her!!

  7. Donna...the reason for the week in the hospital was to calm his GB so that he could have the laparoscopic surgery. The doc said that if he had to operate last week, when Rudy's GB was inflammed, chances were that he would have to have an open surgery. We are keeping our fingers crossed he makes it through the next few weeks and he can have the easier of the two ops!
