Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

Broad Shoulders

On being a morning person.

John, at Going Gently confesses today that he is
not a morning person.

I am.

What we both have in common however
is the desire for silence.

No agendas, no questions, no requests, no radio...please no radio.
Let me transcend from sleep into consciousness seamlessly.

  Give my heart time to open slowly as the dawn breaks.
Allow my sleepy body to shake off its torpor.

This morning I lovingly watch as husband pours me coffee;
noticing his broad shoulders straining the old white bathrobe.
The same shoulders that have borne me up for oh so many years.

This morning-silence can be a very loving place.

Let me stay here, just a little longer;
just until I finish my coffee.

  2. Watched the sunrise this morning, by accident, wanted to be sleeping, but something had me up and paying attention today.

    One must pay attention to life's small moments. : D

  3. So true about quiet. I too do not like radio, tv, or heaven forbid loud talking in the morning.

  4. I'm one of those infuriating people who always wakes up HAPPY. 5.30 am I leap out of bed, make my breakfast, and listen to the news on the radio etc etc. I must be most people's idea of hell; that's certainly what Lady Magnon thinks of me!

    The best bit is that I have at least 3 hours of perfect peace.

  5. I lovvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeee the mornings, I am a 5am girl.When I gently crawl out of bed I hear my husband sigh, I know he would love me to snuggle up and stay longer,but if I go back to sleep I cannot function I am fluffy headed for hours.I sneak out,put on the kettle,shower and dress,let Molly in and she sits quietly with me while I have a coffee and the blissfullness of nothing,I have 1 hour before the rest of the house rises lol..it is the best part of the day.

  6. I'm not sure if my previous comment made it or not...So I will just say again how much I love seeing the start to the day where I live, and the end of it too--There's so much serenity in it...I hope you're having a good day!

  7. I love those beautiful pictures of sunrise J. I think I tend to go with the seasons! Get up at 5 am in the summer and hibernate a bit longer during the winter. The silence is pure bliss!

  8. I used to be a morning person. Then I got really sick. I'm not a morning person any more. I've been robbed! Robbed of the joy of early morning, about which you have written so beautifully, Jacquie.

  9. My husband wakes up to the radio, then proceeds to put on every radio in the house as he makes his way through it. I luckily wake ealier than him and have my peace and quite and enjoy my wakening.

  10. Cro...I think you are happy because you are left alone to your own devices! I I so understand the moving with the seasons Molly
    Sadie...interesting, the only person who spelled my name Jacquie was my late sister Lynne...who's birthday it is today. Perhaps you have channelled her. Whatever...I love the nostagia!
    Lucky you chania to have that peace before he wakes.
    Kim and Blessed Life...the gift of an early morning is an early evening. Off I go...as Mum would say...up the wooden hill...

  14. Such a beautiful post Jacqueline & what a gorgeous shout out to your beloved. Yep, I need peace & quiet for the first hour or so in the mornings, or else I'm the Wicked Witch for the rest of the day!

  15. Early mornings, no...quiet mornings, yes, yes, yes...a must. I wish I was a morning person, I try and try but I'm a night owl at heart...it runs in my family...between 10 & midnight, I'm ready to tackle the world! Mr.24 is the complete opposite...ships passing am & pm comes to mind!
    I've thought about doing a post on this subject for a while now because I'm so curious about others morning and evening *natures*. It fascinates me.
