Beauty in the Ordinary

This is not about being brilliant, or extraordinary, it's not about wanting to be famous, or making headlines, or trying to impress...this about sharing a 'gift' each day with the world...to lift the spirit of people when they read this blog, to show them the beauty in the ordinary.
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Raold Dahl

I Hate Daytime TV

Now...because I am quite a proper English girl,
I rarely use the word 'hate'.
It's just so, so very dire.
But I really, really hate daytime TV!

Because of this bloody awful weather, I have been confined to quarters today and there are only so many closets you can organize.

Out of desperation I flicked on the TV to see what was what.

We do not have extensive coverage, so I meandered through things like
the Nate Berkus Show (why must audiences yell so?) and Steve and Chris (why must audiences yell so and why is beige so amazing?), until I thought I would go mad!

I finally found a show on the radio discussing Edith Wharton...but I have to say it was less than inspiring.

Please let the rain stop...I want to go outside and play!

    1. Only yesterday JohnD when it was raining so hard. Not sure why, but the weather put me in a sort of funk. Found out that TV certainly was not the antidote!

  2. We have cancelled our TV entirely at the old house and have about five channels at the yellow house. There I really only watch public TV and The Big Bang Theory at night. During the day I do not ever turn it on. Reality TV kills me. Really, it is awful.

    1. Luv The Big Bang Theory - Rhonda doesn't understand it but I'm in stitches watching Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper!

    2. Allright you two, now I have to check out The Big Bang Theory. If it wasn't for the 'need' of sports coverage, I think I would cancel the cable service.

  3. It's dreadful..I agree 100%. the funny thing is why do people find Steven and Chris so interesting....same old same old. I once went to their show and they had student makeup artists touching up the makeup of all the audience...no thanks...the only thing interesting daytime TV is Steven's hair...I'm trying to guess if he has a toupee or what it is.

And Marilyn Dennis...I used to love her but now I can;t watch. Whats up with women who can't cook, decorate their house, sew a button these days...we need a host who can cope with the everyday...not to mention she doesn;t even look like herself anymore.

    1. You are absolutely right...those two are so not interesting. I get the bit about Steven's hair and Marilyn's face...LOL!
My neighbour once asked me if I would change out the buttons on a jacket for her because she didn't know how...I just walked away laughing!

  4. I do not know who Steve and Chris are, but have to agree with you, television in the daytime and evening has been relegated to TV for dummies. I do watch public TV (we have 3) and about 4 other programs from the other stations, but unless I can find a good movie, the television stays off. We have over 100 channels, and less to watch than when we had just 6.

I enjoy listening to my music instead.

    1. I think the problem is Sock'em, that the technology of the TVs (flat screen, LCD, plasma, blah, blah, blah) has soared far ahead of programming! I spoke with a screenwriter from LA once who told me you could make a fortune by submitting ideas to the networks...they are desperate for them.

  5. I cannot understand the relentless desire to 'dumb down' TV. UK TV, which I receive here by satellite, is filled with unemployed idiots shouting at each other. Maybe it's designed to keep them off the streets, or out of prison.

  6. I never watch daytime TV as I am never home. But if you want to be inspired go to YouTube and watch Tony Robbins' 6 part series called Breakthrough. It will certainly give you your mojo back (and I defy you not to cry ;-)

    1. I met Tony Robbins at a golf course here in Toronto once Vanessa...I was utterly astonished at how big he is. I will definitely watch. Thank you, I could use a little inspiration in my life right about now.

    1. Someone asked me if I had TiVo once, I replied I cant find anything worth watching...what the heck would I record!
Having said that YAH, two shows I don't mind catching (although I would never organize my life around watching them) are Top Gear and the new Sherlock Holmes series - both from the BBC.

    1. Funny you should mention that Nancy K...I actually can! I'm really not bad at it either...just haven't been inspired by any patterns of late. If you know of any good links to 'interesting' stuff...would love to know about them.

  9. I'm hooked on HGTV and the food channel. Those are worth watching in my book. Other wise you are right....it could all leave you brain dead!
Ps. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement!

  12. I tend to watch tv less and less now. A lot of the programmes are not only rubbish in the day, they're rubbish in the evening too.
